Description

Ortlieb’s commitment to excellence can be seen in the materials, design and construction of the product. Splash, rain, snow, dust or mud, the abrasion-resistant PVC-Coated Cordura fabric and waterproof TIZIP zippers on these Ortlieb bags ensure the contents remain dry and clean. Expedition Duffels have padded removable shoulder straps for use as a backpack, large horizontal openings, 2 internal pockets, inner compression strap, and an outer mesh pocket and reinforced bottom.

The Duffle is for adventurers searching the extreme and expecting excellent performance. The waterproof travel bag protects clothing etc. from water and dirt, and can quickly be converted into a backpack by using the padded handles as shoulder straps. A long TIZIP zip allows quick access to your gear. Internal straps compress the volume. The tough PS620C base fabric makes it an extremely durable expedition bag.

After one year and about 15 days on the river with this bag my observations: It is huge. Feeds my tendency to be disorderly since I can just throw everything in willy nilly. Nice wide opening. I love the zip — so nice to get in and out for the thing you forgot to put in when packing up in the morning. LIght but seems tough. It needs points of attachment at the ends of the bag. The hooks at the ends of the zipper are good but would be tough to manipulate if you have weak or arthritic hands.

Just used this bag for three weeks on the Grand Canyon. Great product testing conditions: sandy, windy, very wet, very dry. Never tested full submersion, thankfully. The zipper of course is the key to a happy camp and this one performed. The construction is classic German quality. The hooks that tuck the ends when closed take a little getting used to, not a deal breaker, actually they’re very secure and necessary. The bag zipped open and closed flawlessly. I love Watershed bags but the Ortleib is much simpler to get in and out of. With all brands squeeze all excess air out before zipping and all require zipper lubricant or treatment, and common sense in sand. The 110 can become quite heavy when loaded to the max but the “backpack” straps make it easy to carry up the hill. I found the eight slots for one inch straps to be ample for securing to the boat. There were other famous name zipper bags on the trip that failed. I would buy this bag again.
